Verdict: Recommended

I bought Impostor Factory late at night with the expectation that I would play an hour or so before bedtime. I ended up playing all of it in one sitting. I could NOT stop playing this game until I knew what happened.

Kan Gao is a master of stringing along emotional beats, with each one either sucker-punching you in the emotional gut or hitting the feels even though you knew it was coming. The story felt so real in a way that's hard to explain. Something about people being human, reacting to life and all the ups and downs it brings, sometimes with grace, sometimes with fumbling. Something about existence, of being, of sensation and experience and time. Something about me turning to my partner and finding that both of us were teary-eyed, because this story is so raw and vulnerable and isn't it love for lovers and friends and families that truly matters in the end?

Also, there's time-traveling, ricebot, and people die (many times!). So that's cool.

Play this game. I promise you that you won't regret it.
